Why Kapenguria, Why Now
Strong demand: West Pokot recorded 13,725 KCSE candidates in 2024 and 14,228 in 2025. An estimated 3,500 to 3,900 qualify for direct university admission each year.
No public university in the County: Qualified learners must travel to distant counties, a burden that falls hardest on low-income families.
A solid foundation: The County has 776 primary schools, 215 secondary schools, 1,110 ECDE centres, 10 vocational training centres, and six middle-level colleges feeding the pipeline.
A constitutional and national priority: The project advances Article 43 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the Universities Act 2012, Kenya Vision 2030, and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
